With this post we start sharing resources and knowledge on topics related to the 2 main EU funded Projects we are involved in, to spread valuable knowledge and stimulate debate and reflections. A fundamental reading on the study of STEMs from a gender perspective are the SAGA projects (STEM And Gender Advance) promoted by UNESCO.
What Unesco indicates as a macro objective, around which the projects are articulated, is the urgent need to develop new indicators and methods for collecting and analyzing data disaggregated by gender regarding the participation of women in STEMs at a global level, so as to develop and implement appropriate solutions.
Science cannot therefore keep on continue to renouncing to the scientific potential of more than half of the world’s population. At the same time, gender equality in STEM is not only a matter of principle, but should also be seen as an essential way of promoting scientific and technological excellence.
The ways in which data related to STEMs are currently being collected do not make women and their needs, concerns and responsibilities visible enough. women and their needs, concerns and responsibilities, and TtThe growing demand for gender-disaggregated data that can be used in a transnational way is only vaguely starting to be satisfied, especially in the most developed countries (http://www.esa.doc.gov/reports/women-stem-2017-update). As a result, a design of policies aimed at overcoming gender inequality in STEMs is still far from being traced.
Serve this as an invitation to view the projects currently underway at Unesco as a model of good practice in the design and implementation of transnational projects.
Una fondamentale lettura in merito allo studio delle STEM in prospettiva di genere sono i progetti SAGA (STEM And Gender Advance) promossi dall’Unesco.
Ciò che l’Unesco indica come macro obiettivo, attorno al quale i progetti vengono articolati, è l’urgente necessità di sviluppare nuovi indicatori e metodi di raccolta ed analisi di dati disaggregati per sesso riguardanti la partecipazione delle donne alle STEM a livello mondiale, ai fini di elaborare ed implementare soluzioni adeguate.

I modi in cui i dati relazionati alle STEM sono attualmente raccolti non rendono sufficientemente visibili le donne ed i loro bisogni, preoccupazioni e responsabilità, e la crescente richiesta di dati disaggregati per genere da poter utilizzare in modo transnazionale sta iniziando solo vagamente ad essere soddisfatta, soprattutto nei paesi più sviluppati (http://www.esa.doc.gov/reports/women-stem-2017-update). Di conseguenza, un disegno delle politiche volte a superare la disuguaglianza di genere nelle STEM è ancora lungi dal poter essere tracciato.
Invitiamo a prendere visione dei progetti attualmente in corso presso l’ Unesco come modello di buone pratiche nella progettazione e realizzazione di progetti transnazionali.
